Men's Horseshoes Rules

  1. Play will be limited to men 18 years and older.
  2. Teams must consist of at least 4 players with as many alternates as desired. Captains will decide their game players. Substitutions allowable after each game played.
  3. A match will consist of 12 games played across 2 sets of pits. Teams will rotate after each set of games.
    Home team rotates clockwise, except after games 4 and 8 when they will crisscross. Visiting team will rotate counter-clockwise the entire match. 21 points will constitute a game.
  4. Scoring will be 1 point per game won. Total accumulative game wins and loses format.
  5. Matches start Friday evenings as scheduled at 7:00 PM. Forfeit at 7:30, 12 points for team present.
  6. Matches can only be re-scheduled due to inclement weather or a pre-scheduled lake function requiring all members. Minimum of 4 players required on scheduled match date or match will be forfeited.
    Teams forfeiting 2 matches, forfeit all matches.
  7. The winning teams are responsible to report match results to the league Chairman.
  8. Horseshoe points must be past the pin to be considered a ringer. (3 points)
  9. Horseshoe Pits - stake to stake is 40' - inside box 3' x 6' with stake 3' from front of box and 18" from sides of box. Stakes to be 1" dia. steel. Max. Height from surface 15" with max. Forward tilt of 3".
  10. Men 70 and over are permitted to pitch from 30 feet, which coincides with National Horseshoe Pitchers Association.
  11. The visiting team takes the courts and set their players first and the visiting team pitches first to start the match.
  12. Playoff Rules:
    1. At the end of the regular season, the 6 teams with the highest win/loss record will compete in the playoffs. If a tie occurs, the winning team of their match during the season will determine the tie breaker. If that match was tied, a 1 game pitch-off is required.
    2. For any round, if a tie occurs, a 1 game pitch-off will determine the winners.
    3. For Round 1, the teams that finish 1 and 2 get a bye. The remaining teams play as follows: the team finishing 3rd plays team 6, the team finishing 4th plays team 5. The higher seed plays at home.
    4. For Round 2, the 1st place team from the regular season plays at home against the lowest remaining seed from round 1. The 2nd place team from the regular season plays at home against the remaining team from round 1.
    5. For the Finals Round, the winners from round 2 play each other at the higher seed’s pits for 1st and 2nd place. The losers from round 2 play each other for 3rd and 4th place.
    6. NO RE-SCHEDULING PLAYOFFS EXCEPT FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER. The playoff coaches are responsible to field a team the night the playoffs are scheduled. No exceptions. If for whatever reason you can't field a team for the playoffs, you must notify the Chairman ASAP, and the 7th place team will advance and compete in the playoffs.
