Championship Swim Meet Rules

  1. Hub Lakes will comply with the current USA rules except for changes noted in the sports program.
  2. Championship swimmer dual meet participation requirements:
    1. Swimmers under 15 years of age will be required to participate in 2 weekly dual meets in order to be eligible for the Championship Meet
    2. Swimmers 15 years of age and older will be required to participate in 1 weekly dual meet in order to be eligible to swim in the Championship Meet.
    3. The above eligibility rule does not apply to swimmers competing in the 18/Over and 35/Over events.
  3. All swimmers must participate in own age group. Exception: swimmers may be moved into older age group relays with no restriction except as noted:
    1. 18 and OVER Relays: swimmers age 15-17 may swim up 1 age group to participate in the 18 and OVER relay events.
    2. 35 and OVER: swimmers must age 35 and older to participate in the relay events.
  4. Meeting of representatives and coaches to confirm Championship entries will be held at the designated Clubhouse Tuesday before Championships.
  5. Prior to the Championship meet the Meet Director will nominate a certified YMCA/USA Official as Referee, who in turn will determine all officials prior to the meet.
  6. Hub Lakes Finals will be run with 2 timers per lane. All relay take-off officials and place judges must be YMCA or USA certified officials.
  7. Scoring for individual events: 1st - 7 pts, 2nd - 5, 3rd - 4, 4th - 3, 5th - 2, 6th - 1. Relays: 1st 14pts, 2nd - 10, 3rd - 8, 4th - 6, 5th - 4, 6th - 2.
  8. There will be a positive check in for both preliminaries and finals.
  9. NUMBER OF ENTRIES: swimmers are allowed to participate in a maximum of 5 events.
    1. TEAM ENTIES: Each team may enter the following:
      1. Individual Events: 10 swimmers and 1 listed alternate.
      2. Relay: 6 listed swimmers.
      3. EXCEPTION: 18/Over and 35/Over relays must be declared in writing on the entry sheets. However the swimmers names are not required until the Sunday scratch meeting.
    2. INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES: Each swimmer has the opportunity to swim in a maximum of 5 events. The entry options are as follows:
      1. Individuals may swim in 3 individual events plus 2 relay events OR
      2. Individuals may swim in 4 individual events and 0 relays.
      3. A listed alternate is to be considered a participant and therefore may be listed up to five times on the entry sheet. All entries must be made on the official entry form and each form must be signed by the coach or the lake rep. All entries must be received in either MEET MANAGER or TEAM MANAGER via email the Friday, ONE WEEK, prior to Championships. With the approval of the HUB Lakes Swim Chairperson and the championship meet director, event modifications will be considered only if a new personal best time resulted during the final dual meet. The request to modify the entry must be submitted via email by 3PM on the Tuesday prior to Championships. The decision will be provided to the respective coach during the Tuesday coaches meeting. Once the Championship entries have been checked and confirmed at the Tuesday meeting, the only changes allowed will be scratches at the positive check-in. Changes will not be permitted after the conclusion of the positive check-in coaches meeting.
    3. FINALS ENTRIES:
      1. INDIVIDUAL EVENTS: no more than 2 swimmers from any one lake may swim in a Championship final event and those 2 swimmers must be the Lake's two fastest swimmers for that event. Each Championship final event will include 6 swimmers and 2 alternates.
      2. Swimmers are allowed to participate in 5 events, provided that 2 events are relays and no more than 3 events are individuals. A listed alternate is to be considered a participant therefore his/her name can be listed up to 5 times on the entry sheet. All entries must be made on the official entry form and must be signed by the coach or lake representative. Championship Finals entries will be checked and confirmed during the coaches positive check-in meeting.
  10. Clearance for practice in the lanes will be arranged through the host lake meet director.
  11. The 400 Freestyle events will be for ages 12/Over and will be swum as a final on Friday evening. Swimmers will not be seeded. Finals qualifiers for all other events will be determined at the Saturday elimination trials with the following exceptions: Men's and Women's 18/Over relays will be swum as finals on Sunday with relay points awarded. The 35/over relays for men and women will both be swum as timed finals on Sunday.
  12. Awards shall be given in the following manner: Individual and Relay events - 1st - Trophy, 2nd and 3rd - medals, 4th - 6th place - ribbons.
  13. A swimmer who has attained his/her 18th birthday prior to June 1st will be permitted to swim 15/17 only if the following conditions are met:
    1. The swimmer has just graduated High School the spring preceding the current summer season.
    2. The swimmer will not attain his/her 19th birthday by the end of the summer season.
  14. The 8/under mixed relays may be 3 of one sex. All other mixed medley relays may be swum with either 2 boys and 2 girls or 1 boy and 3 girls.
  15. Semi-automatic timing systems will be utilized as the primary timing system with manual watches as the secondary timing system. The times at the Championship Meet will be carried out to the hundredths.
    1. Timing Results: The fastest time from a semi-automatic timing system or a manual watch timing system (when semi-automatic has malfunctioned) will be used to determine the outcome of an event unless a malfunction is determined.
    2. Timing Equipment Requirements: The timing system shall consist of two semi-automatic devices or plungers and two manual watches per lane operated by two timers per lane. Each timer must hold one semi-automatic device and one manual watch. A timer cannot hold both primary timing system devices or both secondary timing system device. Minimum of one back up timer operating two manual watches per six lanes.
    3. Timing Malfunction: If the times between like devices, i.e. semi-auto vs semi-auto or manual vs manual, vary by more than .30 second (3/10 second) a malfunction may have occurred. All times will be reviewed to determine the extent of the malfunction and USA rules will be applied. To determine the outcome of the event Order of Finish will be reviewed to finalize the event results provided the written Order of Finish for both Officials match for the impacted swimmer(s).
