Weekly Swim Meet Rules
- Eligibility
- Hub Lakes' eligibility rules apply to weekly dual meets and the championship meet.
- Houseguest may compete in weekly meets as an individual courtesy, which is extended for the good of the sport.
- Houseguest is defined as a swimmer who is not a full time resident of a household within the boundaries of a Hub Lakes Participating community club.
- The Houseguest must meet the age requirements of the event they are participating in.
- Scoring of points, whether in individual or relays, by such guests, must unanimously be agreed upon by the teams in a meeting prior to the start of the meet.
- Current USA rules apply unless otherwise specified.
- Swimmers may participate in 3 individual events and 1 relay. Relays are swum as mixed relays and may contain 3 swimmers of one sex.
- Age groups - see weekly meet event schedule. In weekly swim meets, swimmers will be permitted to swim in individual and/or relay events in an age group which is no more than one age group older than the age group for which such swimmer is qualified. Relays may include no more than 2 swimmers who are swimming in an older age group.
- Coaches must present the team event meet sheet and list of officials by 6:15 pm or a forfeit will be called. Meets start promptly at 6:30 pm. Scratches and name changes can be made up to the time the event is announced.
- Swimmers under 15 years of age will be required to participate in 2 weekly meets to be eligible for the Championship meet.
- The host team is responsible for sending out copies of weekly meet results, which includes the times, to the swimming representative for each lake and to the Citizen. The original meet sheet should be sent to the Chairperson. Results must be received no later than 4 days after the conclusion of the scheduled or make-up meet.
- All rescheduling of meets by must be agreed upon by the representatives and coaches and reported to the Chairperson.
- Officials: The following certified officials will be required to conduct all meets when available: Announcer, referee* (from Home team who will assign all other officials), starter*, and stroke and turn judges (at least one from each lake). Non-certified volunteers will be required for timing (2 per lane) and scoring.
* Indicates these officials may have multiple assignments.
- Summer Officials must attend a refresher course every two years.
- Point scoring: 1st place - 7, 2nd - 5, 3rd - 4,4th - 3, 5th - 2, 6th - 1. All relays and individual entries count for and are awarded the same point score, guest accepted. (See Eligibility Rules).
- Team roster (typed or printed) indicating name and birthday must be submitted to the Chairperson or designated person no later than the Friday following the first scheduled weekly meet. Additions and deletions may be made after this date.
- When available a semi-automatic timing system will be utilized as the primary timing system with manual watches as a secondary timing system. In the event a semi-automatic system is not available, manual watches may be used as the primary system for a dual meet.
Timing Results: The fastest time from a semi-automatic timing system or a manual watch timing system (when semi-automatic is not available) will be used to determine the outcome of an event for dual meets providing there is not a malfunction of the timing system.
Timing Equipment Requirements: The timing system shall consist of two semi-automatic devices or plungers and two manual watches per lane operated by two timers per lane. Each timer must hold one semi-automatic device and one manual watch. A timer cannot hold both primary timing system devices or both secondary timing system devices. Minimum of one back up timer operating two manual watches per six lanes.
Timing Malfunction: If the times between like devices, i.e. semi-auto vs semi-auto or manual vs manual, vary by more than .30 second (3/10 second) a malfunction may have occurred. All times will be reviewed to determine the extent of the malfunction and USA rules will be applied. To determine the outcome of the event Order of Finish will be reviewed to finalize the event results provided the written Order of Finish for both Officials match for the impacted swimmer(s).
