Track Rules

  1. The Track & Field Championships will be held as 1 meet beginning at Noon. There will, however, be 2 championships: Juniors (ages 5-12) and Seniors (ages 13 + Over).
  2. HUB Lakes will comply with the current National Federation of State High Schools Association rules unless otherwise specified in the Sports Program or at a meeting of the track representatives.
  3. The HUB Lake track reps of each lake must supply 2 people to time for the meet at all times. NO TIMERS - NO ENTRIES. Timers must be at the track by 7:45 am.
  4. Competitors are allowed to participate in no more than 4 events, including no more than 3 running or field events. (Non-scoring participation counts as one of the 4 with the exception of a Non scoring relay)
  5. Entries are limited to 2 per lake per event, but may also enter 2 NON-SCORING athletes for events up to and including 15/16. Only 1 lake entry is allowed for relays outside of shuttle relays as designated in rule 10.
    1. Failure to distinguish non-scoring athletes from scoring athletes on the entry tags will result in all athletes in that event from that lake marked as non-scoring. No exceptions.
    2. Any extra athletes entered in events over the 15/16 age group will result in all athletes in that event from that lake marked as non-scoring. No exceptions.
  6. Junior competitors should compete in their own age group. However, if necessary, a junior may compete in the next age group above his/her own. A senior competitor in the age group 13/14 or 15/16 may compete in the next age group above his/her own. Senior competitors in the age group 17-25 may only compete in their own age group. Senior competitors in the age group 26-35 and older may compete in the age group just below their own. Junior and senior competitors may only compete in 1 age group for any given event.
  7. All track entries are "post" entries - no entry forms needed. Contestants need only report to the staging area of their track event. There will be 3 calls for each event; no special considerations will be made for late comers. Anyone reporting late for an event will miss that event - NO EXCEPTIONS.
  8. Field event places will be awarded on best 2 attempts for Junior and best 2 attempts for Senior. In case of a tie, higher place is awarded to the competitor whose second best performance beats that of the competitor tied for that place. Only if the two competitors are tied in both attempts will the event be scored as a tie. Ties are scored as explained in rule 13.
  9. If needed, qualifying heats may be run in the dashes (25-100 meters) to determine finalists. All 200's & 400's, the mile and all relays will be run as timed finals if more than 6 entries are running.
  10. 4 people for the 5-6 and 7-8 shuttle relay. At least one member of each gender is required on the relay team. B team allowed, and will score. C teams may run only as non-scoring.
  11. No Spikes, Blocks or throwing shoes permitted.
  12. Runners may not move down an age group if there are no competitors in that age group. If they chose to compete in the event, they do so for no points.
  13. Scoring for all events: 1st-7 points; 2nd -5 pts ; 3rd-4 pts ; 4th-3pts ; 5th-2pts ; 6th-1pt.
    1. Track event ties: If two runners finish with the same time a tie will be issued in the scores.
    2. Field event ties: will be handled as described in rule 8.
    3. In such cases each of the teams tied will receive half the value of the points for both the place tied and the place below it. The next best performance will be scored as 2 places below the tie (EX. If two athletes ties for 1st, they each receive 6 (7/2 + 5/2) and the next best performance receive 4 for 3rd. EX2. If they tie for 2nd, they each receive 4.5 (5/2+4/2) and the next best receives3 for 4th.)
  14. Age group participation is based on the age of the competitor as of June 1. Eligibility is defined in the front of the book.
  15. Awards are: 1st - Gold medal; 2nd - Silver medal; 3rd - Bronze medal.
  16. Lakes must put their assigned color stripe and name or abbreviation on the athlete’s tag. If the lake name is not present and / or the lake of origin cannot be determined, the athlete will be DQ’d. Stripe colors and abbreviations are as follows:

  17. All athlete tags must have the following format and printed legibly or the athlete will be DQ’d:

  18. Rosters must be sent to the scoring chairman for input into the track meet software by Thursday at 11:59PM prior to the meet. The meet cannot be scored nor the medals distributed if the roster are not submitted. If there are last minute roster additions they must be submitted by the Monday following the meet by 11:59PM or any athletes in question will be DQ’d.
