Rules

  1. All players must be 18 years or older
  2. Teams will consist of a minimum of 4 players and as many alternates as desired.
  3. A match between 2 lakes will consist of 10 games across 2 pits. Teams will rotate after each game. Home team rotates clockwise except after games 4 and 8 when they will criss-cross. Visiting team rotates counter-clockwise.
  4. Winning team is responsible for reporting final scores to Chairperson.
  5. All matches will start PROMPTLY at 6:30 pm. FORFEIT time is 7:00 pm. Ten (10) points will go to the team represented.
  6. A FORFEIT will be executed against any team that fails to field at least 3 players by 7:00 pm match night. NOTE: To avoid a forfeit, you will be able to play a match with 3 players. Your single player will have to pitch from 1 pit only. The opposing player in the opposite pit will be able to throw 2 shoes without challenge. If you definitely know you will not be able to have 3 players at the pits by 7:00 pm Friday night, YOU MUST contact your opposing team coach by 7:00 pm Thursday night. Both coaches must then make an honest attempt to reschedule. If a make up date cannot be agreed upon by both coaches, the league chairman will make the determination of the severity of the match and if a make up is required AND when and where it will be played. This courtesy of rescheduling a match due to lack of players will be extended to all teams during the regular season only once. There will be NO rescheduling allowed during playoffs, except for inclement weather. PLEASE DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO AVOID FORFEITS. Teams forfeiting 2 matches forfeit ALL matches and will not be invited back the following year.
  7. All make up matches must be played as soon as possible. If a date cannot be agreed upon by the 2 coaches, the league chairman will make the determination.
  8. Team horseshoes must be a matched set. Visitors can use their own shoes. Home team shoes will be used for measurements when required.
  9. First contestant to pitch shoes in the first set (games 1 & 2) will be the visitors. Thereafter the winner of each pit will go first.
  10. First contestant pitches both shoes, the opponent pitches 2 shoes. An inning constitutes the pitching of 2 shoes by each contestant. Point winner of each inning pitches first in the following inning. If resulting in tie or no shoes, then last point pitches first.
  11. All players may pitch from a temporary foul line marked 27 feet from the base of the opposing pin or stay back at the existing foul lines at the front of the pit boxes at 37 feet or may go anywhere in between.
  12. Women who pitch from the 30 foot line must stay within the boundry of the left and right 40 foot pitching platforms. No one can pitch from the middle of the 30 foot line. If there is no platform or no markout at the 30 foot line then a line must be drawn from the end of line on each side, equal to the width of the pitching platform, which is usually 18 inches wide, and players will pitch from within that space.
  13. At end of the regular season, the 4 teams with the best win/loss record will compete in the playoffs. If a tie occurs, the winning team of their match played during the season will determine the tie breaker. If that match was tied, a one game pitch-off is required. The 1st place team will play the 4th place team, and the 2nd place team will play the 3rd place team. The team with the best win/loss record will have home pit advantage for the playoffs as well as the championship match. Winning teams advance to the CHAMPIONSHIP Match, the losing teams will play for 3rd place. The tie breaker will be a one game pitch-off. NO MAKE UP MATCHES IN PLAYOFFS, except to reschedule for inclement weather. Playoff coaches are responsible to field a team the night scheduled for playoffs - no exceptions. If for whatever reason you can't field a playoff team, you must notify the league chairman and the team with the 5th place win/loss record will advance to the playoffs .
